Security for multi-unit estates, yards and business parks

Industrial and commercial estates combine long perimeters, constant vehicle movement, shared areas and several tenants with different needs. A design that works needs to account for all of them.

What we see most

  • Out-of-hours intrusion through perimeter fencing and gates
  • Vehicle movements at estate entrances that nobody can account for afterwards
  • Fly-tipping and unauthorised parking in shared areas
  • Theft from yards, compounds and vehicles
  • Poor lighting that leaves footage unusable after dark
  • Footage that means someone attending site to find it, after an incident has already cost you time

Common areas first, then a standard for the whole estate

Estate-wide coverage is designed around entrances, perimeters and shared roads, with ANPR where vehicle records matter. Coverage goes first where people and vehicles move: estate roads, parking, unit frontages and gates. The aim is to identify and review what happened, not to watch every corner. Each camera is specified for a purpose: to detect at the perimeter, or to identify at the gate. Where sites are spread out, existing cabling is reused where it’s sound, and remote locations can be connected without new cable runs. Start with a consistent baseline, then add cameras or ANPR where the need is proven, without replacing what’s there.

For multi-site owners, the same specification principles apply on every estate. You can compare sites and budget for upgrades on a like-for-like basis.

Clear responsibilities

On a multi-let site, the estate owner, the tenants, or both may operate CCTV. I’ll help you set out who is responsible for which cameras and footage, so data protection obligations are clear from the start.
