In brief: modern CCTV runs on your network, so your IT team needs to be involved from the first planning conversation, not on installation day.
Why IT now has a stake
CCTV used to sit entirely outside IT’s world. IP-based systems changed that. The projects that run smoothly are the ones where IT was involved from the start.
What IT needs, and when
IT needs to know about IP addresses, firewall rules, switch ports and power, and how remote access will work. Sort these out at the planning stage. Otherwise, a blocked firewall rule on installation day can stop cameras coming online while nobody who can fix it is available.
The cost of leaving IT out
Delays, return visits, and an IT team who feel the project happened to their network instead of with them. IT teams also know about network constraints that affect the design, so involving them early produces a better system.
IT as a stakeholder
Treat IT as a stakeholder from the first conversation. It’s one of the simplest ways to keep a CCTV project on schedule.
