Who I am
This website is run by Ian Smith, trading as Ian Smith, Security Adviser. I am the data controller for personal information collected through this website. You can contact me at ian.smith@securityadviser.co.uk or on 07557 787270.
What I collect
If you send an enquiry, I collect the details you choose to give: your name, organisation, email address, phone number, site location and your message. If you email or phone me, I keep a record of that correspondence.
This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not track you across other websites.
How I use it and why
I use your details to reply to your enquiry, arrange a conversation or site survey, and prepare a proposal if you ask for one. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries, or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
If your project goes ahead, the relevant details are shared with EJ Vision, who carry out installation and ongoing support.
Who else handles it
Some services help me run this website and my business, and process data on my behalf: Cloudflare (website hosting), Web3Forms (delivering enquiry form messages to my inbox), Microsoft (email) and OnePageCRM (my customer records). Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, under safeguards required by UK data protection law.
How long I keep it
I keep enquiry details for as long as needed to respond and follow up, and no longer than two years after our last contact unless we go on to work together. Project records are kept for as long as needed for warranty, legal and accounting purposes.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the information I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, object to how I use it, or ask me to stop contacting you. Contact me using the details above and I’ll respond within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
